It’s that time of year when the state fair rolls around and many little fairs/carnivals/markets in-between. How in the world do you find something to eat that is allergy free?
Our first year it was sad, discouraging, depressing actually as we watched others eat elephant ears, funnel cakes, cookies, nachos, etc. but discovered there were so many things that are gluten-free (always check with your vendor who will more than happy to help you with allergens) like the turkey legs, ice cream sundaes, caramel apples, cotton candy, stuffed potatoes, coffee, hamburgers but finding something that is gluten/dairy/soy free has been impossible for us this year. unless I want a backed potato with nothing on it, or only the banana’s in the sundae or cotton candy.
So this year I plan on making a lot of fancy snacks and just bringing them along. perhaps some homemade funnel cakes, elephant ears, etc…. Until I figure out how to attend the function totally allergy free. By bringing our favorites it eliminates the depression of wanting all that food. Although I will admit I so want to try a deep-fried Twinkie. They didn’t come out on the market until after going gluten-free and I must admit it does tempt me.
