Baked Sandwhiches

When I was in elementary school (yes I do know that was 30 years ago) they use to serve us these sandwiches that were baked bread with the ham and cheese inside them.   they also served us Jimmy Carter whipped peanut butter but that is a whole other post as I have not perfected it yet.  I am a slower learner.

But tonight I made an interesting meal that I will definitely have again and again.   Home made fresh bread sandwiches that I baked.   I wish I could have taken a picture but my excitement got the best of me and we gobbled it up before I could.

Using Kinnikinnick bread and bun mix I mixed up some bread dough.   I took a square glass baking dish and I painted the bottom with a very thin layer of dough.  I then put on turkey breast slices (leaving about 1/2 and inch on the sides) and then layered some cheese and then more turkey breast slices and covered that with another thin layer of bread dough and baked til golden brown.  What I got was an awesome sandwich.   I just cut in half and then half again so there were 4 pieces and served with chips.    For my son who can’t have cheese nor will he eat turkey slices I did the same thing but with hot dog slices.  He loved them and we loved our sandwiches. A nice no fuss warm sandwhich that was contained.  It was lacking some mayo and next time I will try baking with mayo mixed in with the cheese.   Make sure you put meat slices on prior to cheese and after the cheese otherwise the cheese will melt into your bread and you won’t get a warm gooey cheese center.

Enjoy.
