My son and I were reading a book about sharing called Halvsies. there was too much food so the character would call out halvsies halvsies who wants halvsies. So as I was cooking last night I thought about this book. I have been working hard on making just the right amount of food so that we don’t have wasted leftovers. No one likes left overs but me it seems and well I can only eat so much food. So last night we had a halvsies ham.
2 lb ham cut in half and scored~ 1/2 cup of the following: pineapple juice, apple juice, brown sugar ~ 2 & 1/2 apples cored and sliced ~ 1/2 tbsp cinnamon ~ 1/2 tsp clove
mix the juices and brown sugar with the spices and place in a crock pot. place your 1/2 ham in the juice and place the apples around it. Let cook all day or until done. depending on your ham and if its precooked or smoked etc it will be done in 2-5 hours.
before serving I took the juice and added some liquified cornstarch and thickened it into a sauce which I poured over the ham and apples. I served it with a side of sweet potatoes which also tasted very well with the sauce.
not overly sweet or fruity but just a mild nice combination. Reminded me of Easter dinner a bit. there was some ham left over but I plan on re-using that in a completely different dish later this week.
Halvsies, Halvsies who wants Halvsies.
