Saltines – GF/CF

I must admit these are laboring to make but good as a snack. unfortunately they go too fast in our home so the effort to make them doesn’t equal out to how long they last.   But you can add all kinds of things as seasoning besides just sale, like black pepper, thyme, rosemary, sage any seasoning to make these more savory.

4 cups gluten free flour blend (your favorite blend or use a premade like Tom Sawyer Gluten free Flour) –

1 – 1/2 tsp baking powder

3/4 cup shortening

1/3 cup milk or milk sub such as almond milk

1 cup water.

mix flour and powder and then cut in shortening until crumbly.  Add liquid and stir to form a dough.  roll into a very thin sheet (very thin this is the hard part) cut into circles, squares or with cookie cutters. (I use a pizza cutter to make squares)  Prick with a fork a few times, salt or season them and bake on a cookie sheet about 4 minutes depending on how thin you actually got these.

hints – rolling and cutting on parchment paper makes transfer to the cookie sheet easier.  thick ones make great snacks too but get hard and stale a little faster but taste just as good.
