What is fenugreek, Well it was GREEK to me that’s for sure. A dear friend sent me a bunch of sprouting seeds and included were things I have never heard of before in my life. I am sure you will be hearing more sprouting stories from me in the near future….but back to fenugreek what the heck is it? (okay have to admit I sprouted it before I studied it yes I am a die-hard sprouter and vegetable eater, the odd ball)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fenugreek there is a lot of information here on it but it looks like it’s used in many things in many ways. One is for lactating mothers….okay don’t have to worry about that one, If I start lactating however I will never sprout fenugreek again!!!!! some chinese use this to tonify the kidneys, ward off colds and help pain…in the groin….um okay. it’s used in pickles curry powder and pastes…now we are getting down to good uses. I am not sure in its other forms but sprouted it does have a little bit of a bitter taste but quite an addicting taste. I am thinking great for chinese stir fry’s reminds me sort of like a bean sprout but with a lot more nutritional value.
The big question of the day is will it make it into a chinese stir fry or will I just end up eating my sprouts? wow, that will take some will power and I just can’t say for sure but my guess is I am going to eat it before it makes it into a stir fry.
There you have it. Fenugreek is no longer greek to me but a happy little sprout that sits in a baggie in the fridge yelling eat me , “save me from the horrible heat of the wok!” Your wish is my command. Talk to you all later while I go eat my sprouts, hey it was their idea after all.
