Perfect little cookies for Valentines day however I made them for my daughter’s birthday. Maraschino cherries are one of her favorites that we have added to cakes and such but I wanted a cookie for New Year’s so I found a recipe and adapted it.
- 1 cup butter
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 Tablespoon maraschino cherry juice
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 1/2 cups Tom Sawyer Flour
- 3/4 cup Maraschino cherries, drained and chopped
- Hershey’s chocolate kisses
- sugar sprinkles (optional)
- Cream butter and powdered sugar together, add cherry juice, vanilla extract and salt and beat well.
- Add flour a little at a time. Scraping down bowl.
- Add cherries and mix only enough to blend. Dough should be stiff.
- using a scoop or forming small balls place on a baking sheet leaving room for them to spread. Slight press down (not flat just flattened ball shape) add sugar sprinkles if desired for decoration.
- Bake at 350F degrees for 10-12 minutes.
- Remove from oven and immediately place a Hershey kiss in the center while still hot.
- Let cool completely before storing in an airtight container.
