Gluten Free Sesame Chicken

and…………..I have decided to share with everyone.


It is just one of those recipes that pleases everyone, even the pickiest of eaters.  Who doesn’t love a breaded chicken covered in sugary goodness?   But be prepared to over-indulge.   Lets just say 4 of us today devoured the whole batch, but most people have smaller appetites so you may get many more servings out of your batch.


Let’s Marinate our chicken!


It’s best to start the night before but if you didn’t then at least give it 30 minutes.


4 Tbsp. tamari soy sauce

6 drops of sesame oil

4 Tbsp. gluten-free flour blend

4 Tbsp. cornstarch

4 Tbsp. water

½ tsp baking powder

½ tsp baking soda

2 tsp olive oil

3 lbs chicken breast or thigh cubed with fat taken off


Mix cornstarch and water until smooth and then add in all the other ingredients except chicken.   It will form a bubbling brew of sorts.

Place chicken and sauce in a marinating container or simply put it into a gallon bag and place in the refrigerator until ready to fry.



Now for the sauce and putting everything together.

1st Heat up the deep fryer………..

and put on a pot of sticky rice





1/2 cup water

1 cup chicken broth

1/4 cup Mirin sweet rice seasoning

1/4 cup cornstarch

1 cup sugar

2 Tbsp. tamari soy sauce

2 Tbsp. sesame oil

1 garlic clove minced

Add water and cornstarch until thin, put aside.   Bring all the other ingredients to a simmer and add in the cornstarch mixture.  Turn heat up until it starts to bubble and thicken.  Once it is thickened turn to low and let simmer until your chicken is done.   Make sure throughout the whole process you are whisking often to keep from clumping or turning to gel.  You should be able to finish frying the chicken in the same amount of time it takes for the sauce to cook.    Multitasking is a mother’s best quality.



put some GF Flour into a bowl and place your marinated chicken, several pieces at a time and coat them well with flour.


Place in the deep fryer and fry until they float.   Set aside each batch in a warming oven till it is all done.


Once you have a big batch of them, you are ready to pour on your sauce.  Mix well to coat all pieces.

Serve over sticky rice and enjoy.
