Everyone has heard of Outback steakhouse, we even have one here in Alaska. This is one of the places we dined at while vacationing in Hawaii because we know that they offer gluten-free choices. I expected good quality food with no cross contamination and to leave happy and full with no ill side effects. What I didn’t expect is the extra mile they went for my son who cannot have gluten/dairy/soy/dyes/banana/many other little things. We brought in his safe hotdog along with our usual PB sandwich and snacks which we pack everywhere we go so that he can eat. But we asked if they could heat a hot dog up in the back and bring it on a plate so that it looked like he was getting a meal too like the rest of us. This hardly ever happens unless we eat out for breakfast and get a hard-boiled egg with bacon. There is generally nothing he can have eating out for lunch and dinners.
We were brought back a hot dog on the plate along with our meals and he explained that they grilled on tin foil so there was no cross contamination. This blew me away that they would go the extra step to make sure it was not contaminated. (I surely didn’t ask for that I just asked for it heated up….frankly I expected it to be done in a microwave) My son got to enjoy two warm hotdogs on the Barbie just like the rest of enjoyed our foods.
Again we walked out of there stuffed to the max with good Gluten free foods, without an ounce of sickness. With all the places we have tried in Hawaii I am impressed but with Outback steakhouse I am over impressed with the extra mile they took to get my son a meal.
Mahalo Outback Steakhouse.
