THESE WERE AMAZING, and exactly how I remember them tasting. I have heard people say they were different tasting but I believe when someone puts a GF label on something (be it naturally GF or with flour subs) people get in their head it has to taste bad or bland or just not good for some reason. So many people have cried and carried on over these going GF and really that is just sad and stupid.
These were just as sweet, and oaty flavored as I remembered. they were not hard like I find most gf (other than chex) cereals to be and soaked up the milk in the right amount so that they were not too stiff but not soggy. The flavor was spot on to the Cheerio name and I very much enjoyed the bowl of Cheerios this morning.
I bought my oldest a box too and she had the same thing to say, Amazing. She grew up on these so it was a pretty big deal and she really enjoyed eating them again. Both my older girls grew up on Cheerios, it’s just one of those foods that are good from day one when they can eat solids. Great finger foods and I think of all the GF babies that can now enjoy again.
OH, there is some talk in how they become gluten free, (by just stripping it out rather than opting for GF oats to begin with) but I am ultra sensitive and as of yet I have no ill feelings from gluten and my daughter who ate her bowl last night is also doing fine. Not sure this is something I will gamble on much but it sure was nice to have an old old favorite for now.
Oh how I have missed you Cheerios. (now to find the original so I can make all my old favorite snacks with them)
and…………..on with my little rant
to those people who say GF can’t taste good I say PBBBBTH because gluten free is wonderful and can taste good. I have enjoyed food completely (my scale will attest to that) since my celiac diagnosis. I miss some things, don’t get me wrong but 95% of all I miss can be made better, healthier and easier in most cases than the original food item. Ever made Jell-O? I will never buy a box again filled with only sugar, food dye and chemicals. I opt for homemade jello whenever I can.
I still remember a person who refused to eat my Chocolate cake because it was GF. She said she tasted a little bit and it was gross. She went on to rant how awful it was and people were just being nice. Well 3 people asked for my recipe that day and one made it and brought it again, guess what? That same person who said mine was gross ate the other cake thinking it was a regular cake and raved and loved it completely. Her face was red when I picked up a piece and started eating. I thought she would choke on her words as she asked if it was gluten free. Yep goes to show you how people look at foods these days. Heck I know someone who won’t eat anything if it isn’t processed, he says it just tastes better than fresh. Sad people, food is good you just know how to make it.
