Turkey Cookie Dough Truffles

Who doesn’t love eating cookie dough?   Who usually eats 1/2 the batter while making cookies? (My hand is raised high on that question)   How about Cookie Dough Bites, and just to make it a little more festive let’s shape them like little turkeys!!!!!

I have been playing around with my colored marshmallows again.   I might have a slight addiction to that actually, but they make such beautiful flowers on cupcakes and snacks.   Click here for a cute treat I made with flowers on cookies and more recently (you can see it on my facebook page) I made flower cupcakes.

But today I wanted to turn those marshmallows into feathers.

The best thing to do when making a large amount of flower petals or turkey feathers is to use bags with colored sugar in them.   1.  cut mini marshmallows diagonally and place into baggie with sugar.   shake to coat.

this works marvelous but you tend to have leftover sugar and because it has touched food I don’t like putting it back into the little jar.  This is why I will most the time dip the marshmallow individually.

Now the turkey.

You do a basic cookie recipe without the eggs.   I did these for valentines day and they were amazing.

  • 2 cups gluten free flour mix
  • 1/2 t salt
  • 3/4 C  butter, melted (Palm shortening for dairy free)
  • 1 C packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 C white sugar
  • 1 T vanilla extract
  • 4 T milk (almond milk for dairy free)
  • optional mini enjoy life chocolate chips
  • Shape into balls or whatever shape you want

Freeze cookie dough ball/shapes for the best results before dipping.

For the coating, you can either use Chocolate candy melt or chocolate chips.    For this project make sure you only melt a small amount at a time!   why?   you need to decorate your turkey while the chocolate coating is still soft and while you are decorating your turkey, your bowl to dip the cookie dough is also hardening up.  It is a work quick process.   This is where little helper hands would be great.

I used mini sixletts for the eyes, star decorations for the beak and a red sprinkle for the gobble.

(I played around with eye color a big and beak color and found I like black eyes, yellow beak the best)
